Outdoor Work Out

I think this is the first time I’ve seen a workout room that’s basically outdoors.

I guess when you live on 4 acres along a canyon in Malibu you’re not too worried about inclement weather or thieves.

Workout equipment outdoors, a motorcycle indoors… It’s inside-out house!

  1. All that fresh air in the place, they could market it as a tuberculosis sanitarium.

  2. Nice looking place. But for $5M on 4 acres in Malibu that’s a given. What’s not given (for me, anyway) is that with such poshness there’s nary a bathtub in sight, let alone a hot tub. Say what now? It’s a 2 bedroom bungalow and 2 baths are shown, both with showers. Really nice, spacious showers, but nobody gets even $5K from me without a bathtub. And for $5M it ought to be a damn nice one.

Moving beyond this glaring hole in the plot line, the airy openness is… wondrous. Intermingling of indoor and out (inside-out, as Marty put it) is one of my all-time favorite spatial design techniques. (Even better when in the appropriate climate. Not so much in, say, Alaska.) The airiness is furthered by the exposed ceiling trusses and the white decor. And boy, do these guys like white. (I pity whoever has to keep the place clean.) Together with natural wood flooring, the adjacent green space and brilliant blue sky, (not to mention that view, you have a trifecta… wait… quadrifecta(?) of WIN. If it were mine I might develop the terrace a bit more (“Hello, Bob’s Custom Hot Tubs?”), but otherwise all here is, IMHO, as it should be… minus that bathtub.

  3. @Emerald63: See? I didn’t even see the bathrooms, and you confirm it: this place was definitely set up for some sort of fresh air, cold water and healthy exercise cure… and if it wasn’t, as you rightfully point out, such a very nice place, I’d certainly decline.

Now, what they will need, once they’re all pooped out, dosed with vitamins, and tucked into their little organic-cotton-sheeted beds by 7:30pm, is a caretaker. Who should be appropriately housed in a separate, comfy yet minimalist, and fully applianced bungalow. With a view.
