Make Your Home in a Dome

I’m a sucker for a geodesic dome home.

Put it on a little river and you’ve got a double-win.

From the listing agent’s description:

A rare opportunity to own a waterfront home on the Sammamish River, minutes from Lake Wash. This one-of-a-kind dome has many updated design features such as brushed SS backsplash, marble tile, 25 skylights half that open, creative loft, brass fire pole, hot tub & sauna, enclosed patio & large outdoor patio w/ outdoor shower. Dock your yacht out front.

Gotta have a place for my yacht.

Love the wood shingle siding.

Wait, what’s that pole over by the stairs?

How did the listing agent fail to mention I miss the mention of the fireman’s pole?

Geodesic dome, on a river, with a fireman’s pole? Triple win!

Wait… Marty, the listing does mention the fireman’s pole… in the very part of the listing text you posted here. And it’s only Tuesday. Dude… you might want to think about a vacation. Sounds like you need/deserve one. (Hug)

As for the dome home – Score! Awesome find!! It is SO nice to see an original era (1974) geodesic still in such beautiful shape. So well maintained and upgraded with really nice materials. The yacht out back is one hell of an “upgrade” too, not something the early hippie dome builders would have ever imagined being part of (along with the almost $1M pricetag).

Question… I’m a bit confused by the upper level of the fire pole; there seems to be a raised platform around the bottom, rather than an open space to use when going down the pole. So is that a safety cover? Covered in carpeting? The one wedge cut out of it doesn’t seem big enough for a person to get through, though. Is that actually the top of the fire pole, then? Or is that an additional, er… “recreational” pole?

Lots of cool things, only a couple that are questionable. A neutral one with an interesting parallel – the way the wall slants out in Pics 8&9 reminds me of being up on the observation level of the St. Louis Arch. A little unnerving there, not so much here. I really like the little eye-height windows around the hot tub, as well as the unique – and very attractive – kitchen decor. But the tiger-striped carpeting in the loft? Not so much. Not combined with the particular wood grain in the paneling and the patterned ceiling. Maybe a long soak in that hot tub while gazing at the river will ease my tiger-stripe induced headache…

  2. @Emerald63: Hmm either that wasn’t there when I first saw the listing or I just really need a remedial course in reading comprehension!

  3. @Emerald63: It does say on the listing that it was “Last updated: 18 hours ago” so I’m sticking with the possibility that the brass fire pole part wasn’t there when I first found the listing on Monday. Yeah, that’s the ticket.

@Marty E.: Whatcha wanna bet the agent reads LooneyListing, saw your description of no fire pole mention and went right out and fixed it? Yup, you rock, Marty! :D
