So basically it's now gone to seed and is no longer the ritzy glam-fest it used to be. I know Austin has turned into a little Hollywood itself, though. I used to see glitterati all the time when I was working downtown as a security guard.

RE: "Truth in advertising" for real estate...

From my understanding, California real estate law is very strict on what has to be disclosed to potential buyers... even whether or not a home is thought to be haunted. Oh, and that "sitting smack on top of the San Andreas Fault" thing, too.

Looks like this place has had a bit of its own earthquake wear and tear.

@Denita TwoDragons: *North* Hollywood. In 2009 the L.A. Times had this to say:

"North Hollywood neighborhood statistics: population: 77,848; median household income: $42,791"

Nope, no Prada there.

As for West Hollywood, incorporated in 1984 (cue the Twilight Zone theme music), for the years 2000-2009, the median income was only around $50,000 - that's what they had - *before* taxes - to try to live with California prices. :(

Wikipedia says that, overall, Hollywood proper has an even lower median income. The thing is, some of the major movie companies have offices or studios in or near Hollywood, and some of the movie awards groups and museums have space there, too. But the rich folks who make the movies and star in them don't live there.
