Enjoyed the comments! We bought this monstrosity in 2014 for a future project. It is located at 1801 Grand Ave in the Grand Ave historic District in Everett, WA .

A little background:

This house has great bones! Built by owner of a lumber mill in 1910. Good wood, solid foundations. Clear fir floors throughout. Sherman tank as far as construction. Staircase was a miss. Built for short people.

Located on the bluff overlooking Port of Everett with Everett Naval Station on the left and the largest public marina on west coast to the right. One of the best water/port views around. Across street is center area of 3 block long lineal city park - Grand Ave Park. The park is on the edge of the bluff, only 50 feet wide and full of flowers. You look throught the flowers down on the water. Next door across 18th Street is the Frat Mansion. This house was called Eddy Manor.

House is close to identical to late Senator Scoop Jackson's house located one block away. Designed by same architect and built by same builder.

Lots of work ahead. Will completely rework. It needs everything but will be fabulous when done. Exterior will stay the same but inside.....no end in sight!

I think I'll cry when the wallpaper goes. Microsoft rented it for the 12 deals of Christmas videos in 2014. Needed something unusual. They found it.

There is a toilet sitting 12" from the center dormer window. The toilet lid is above glass height in the window. Best throne in Everett! On the third floor there are giant linen closets with doors built like a morgue. Main floor includes large butlers pantry with ice chest cabinets still intact. The large conservatory has a balcony above off the master bedroom

Redecorated last in 1973. Each child got to pick their room color and decorated with flocked wallpaper. The bedrooms are red, orange, pink, purple, green, blue. All with matching shag carpets. Parents chose black and gold wallpaper with gold shag.. Living room is light blue flocked wallpaper with white shag. Formal big dining room has silver/white flocked wall paper and white shag. It has 3 stories plus full basement.

@Emerald63: No problem!

The wallpaper looks cool in the photos but it is all showing quite a bit of wear and must be replaced/removed. In some cases the walls underneath felt as though they may need new drywall, too.

The electrical throughout the house would probably need to be updated.

The floors were almost all covered in a variety of rather hideous neon carpets. Ideally you'd pull all that out and refinish the hardwood floors that no doubt lurk beneath. 6,600 square feet of hardwood floor refinishing is going to be expensive.

I'm a little fuzzy on the details but I seem to recall that a few of the bathrooms really needed to be re-done, too. Old fixtures that were leaky, etc.

@Marty E.: Ahh, well that makes sense then. Who wants to pay big money in a not-big-money area?

But what sort of work does it need? I looked through the listing again and I can't find anything that the public gets to see that looks too bad. I think I was wrong about the radiators, as farther down it says there's natural gas heat, so there's not even that to change out. Is there more info you have on needed updates/repairs that non-agents can't see?

@Emerald63: It is very high-priced for the area, even after the $100,000 price drop since it was originally posted here. Virtually no homes in that neighborhood have ever sold for that much, let alone one that needs as much work as this one does.

@K. Moore: Thanks for the update! I know some of the wallpaper is really out there, but this still looks like a very nice home. Other than it still relying on radiators for heating (a place this big?!) I'm not sure why it hasn't sold. Guesses anyone? Anything that should be glaringly obvious that I'm not seeing?

If nobody sells Magic Eye wallpapers, someone should. That would be incredible.

This is weird - it's a great looking home in good shape with nice spaces and nice extras like woodwork and great windows. So who the hell decorated it? Somebody's great aunt who decided to take her life long dream job to the next level... reality? Some aspects of this place look totally classic early '70s, but it seems in too good a shape for it to have been that long since it was done. At the very least the carpet is likely *much* newer - it's hard to get that degree of vacuum marks in older carpet. I guess this means they still make this sort of wallpaper then, eh?

BTW, D, I never could get those 3D things to work for me. Let us know if you're able to make out anything besides a shark, 'kay?
