@Samme: Another good point. Besides not being bothered about fancy interiors and/or not having the skills to create them, many people just don't have the time to try to learn about what will make an inviting home for guests. Hence, professionals... for those who can afford them.

I think a lot of people (more than you would probably expect) could not possibly care less about home design and decor. As long as the bed or couch is big enough, the shower works, the microwave and fridge work, and the place locks well enough to protect the TV they do not care about anything else. But sometimes those people still have to entertain other humans in their cave, and possibly want to impress other humans. At that point it becomes necessary to hire someone to tell you what looks decent. Much like me with fashion (though I can’t afford a stylist). If I ever did suddenly get into a position where I had to be well styled and coiffed I would require professional help. I am almost 40 and still can’t do makeup or pick out a dress that isn’t way-out-of-style.

@Denita TwoDragons: You've got a point. I sometimes wonder what those business "power types" are like in the little personal time they allow themselves. Since they seem to define themselves by their business success, perhaps they are fine with little to no personal self-expression, but instead are good with whatever a professional expert designer says is the thing to have. I mean, you pay for their advice, so they must be right, right? Right??

I’m thinking there’s a snob equivalent: “Prove you can handle the building,” — in a personal interview, no doubt — “and we’ll show you the penthouse.” :D

C’mon, Marty, where’s your sense of adventure? If you’ve got 2mil to drop on a penthouse (not to mention an additional $1350 a month on HOA fees) you’ve probably got money to burn. And you’re probably already used to gambling with investments to some degree. That’s how most folks end up with 2mil to shell out on what is basically an apartment. Although… this apartment has *2* fireplaces, 5.5 baths, **and** comes with a garage door opener which, I’ll assume, means private parking.
