Stamp Collector’s Dream

12000 Rushmore Dr., Whitewater, CA 92282

This $3.5 million listing has four photos. The first two are duplicates.

Is that a dog… drinking from a pool?

I love how the watermark is basically the same size as the photos.

  1. I don’t see a house on the property, but apparently there is one(?) It’s built in 1963, has a pool, a pond, 1,296 sq ft, a fireplace in the living room…

    …and 12 full bathrooms. (?!?!?!?)

Well, that would account for about all 1,296 sq ft.

  2. The pictures aren’t the only hinky thing about this listing. I checked on several interesting looking words in the (extremely poorly) written description. It looks like the “400 acre private canyon” is “private” because it’s in the Morongo Indian Reservation. Sadly, this would also explain the less than spectacular housing visible from satellite maps and google street view. Might also explain why the Windermere listing for this address claims there are 18 bedrooms to go with the 12 baths Frodo mentioned. Um, no. Satellite shows a building with vehicles parked next to it providing scale and pretty much confirming that it has maybe 5 bedrooms tops. Supposedly there are “5 historic houses from 1000 sq ft to 2500 to 3000 sq ft. good condition” but I’m not seeing them. Most of what was there for the early 2008 street images are mobile homes and manufactured housing. It did seem like there was a little bit of new construction, but only of small to moderately sized homes.

There’s a map outline of the Indian Res a little way down at this site: http://tchester.org/sb/plants/floras/banning_area.html

Also, the mention of Sand and Snow National Monument, should actually read “the proposed Sand to Snow National Monument.” There’s some info about it here: http://www.wildlandsconservancy.org/conservation_sand.html. The page is copyrighted 1995-2012. No idea if the designation ever came to pass.

Interesting combination of circumstances… it’s on a reservation, one which encompasses a portion of I-10, a portion that just happens to lead directly to Palm Springs and other ritzy locales. Believe it or not, this site is only 10 miles NW of Bob Hope’s old place…… (O_o)
