Orange you glad you live upstairs?

It’s a nice, unassuming little 1950s cottage…

With a great playground just across the street…

A nicely refinished living/dining room…

And even a master bedroom with a fireplace…

What do you mean, it’s not the set of a Vincent Price movie? You mean it’s like this all the time?! AGGGH!!!

  1. It would be the perfect man cave for someone like a Vols or Clemson fan. Otherwise, I’m bidding at least the price of paint lower than the asking price.

  2. I went to high school with a kid who was color blind and could only discern orange. He drove an orange truck, painted his room orange, and wore a lot of orange shirts.

I’m not a big fan of the color, but this particular shade isn’t bad. The rest of the basement being mid-tone beige helps.

What an odd sort of color-blindness. Huh. I thought I already knew of the oddest kind but I guess I was wrong. I’ve known an artist (of all things) for many years who is almost completely color blind. His wife chooses and mixes his colors for him. The artwork comes out beautifully, so it seems to be the right partnership.

I don’t mind this shade of orange either… it’s just that there’s so much of it, which seems to intensify the intensity even further. Combined with artificial lighting it’s all a bit overwhelming. A few accents with a lighter version of the shade, or something else compatible, would help.

PS – Are we sure this room doesn’t actually belong to your high school classmate? They seem made for each other.

Listen, orange isn’t exactly my favorite color (I hate it, actually) but I’m bemused by the fact that that’s what seems weird to the rest of you. I mean, I’m much more freaked out about the fact that there’s no solid wall between the bathroom and the rest of the space and that there seem to be tracks all over the ceiling to pull those curtains all over the place.

That and the fact that the kitchen in the basement is much nicer than the one upstairs.

  5. @MsWildhack: For me the freak-out factor would depend on whether I lived alone down there and how often I had people over. If I were a guest, I’d find the toilet not having better (read “any”?) privacy an issue, though I’d be OK with the tub/shower. It looks plenty big enough to dry off once you’re done, as well as slip into a bathrobe. It does seem the toilet is at least partially tucked behind an angled wall and that it sits facing the right hand end of the vanity (you can see the handicapped grab bar on the wall). Still, I don’t care to share the auditory portion of my endeavors, so yes, right-out-in-the-open is problematic.

  6. Hah — that bathtub/shower looks well nigh unusable to me, simply because of the hip-high brick wall. I’m too short and too old for that.
