This is a lovely mid-century modern home that looks to have been expertly updated, but some of what the listing agent chose to feature in their set of 64 photos is a little… odd. Does the Pottery-Barn-esque canvas laundry basket come with the listing? Why is it featured so prominently?

Okay, cool…I guess this photo is trying to show us that if you buy this house you can sit with pillows and browse a picture book? Cool, I guess…

Twigs in a vase. That’s it, I’m sold. I need this house.

There are photos of two other angles of this tub and shower in the listing so obviously this shot is just here to let us know that if we want to set a tray on the tub, we can. Good to know.

Beds: Also good for reading! Hang on though, I don’t think we’ve seen enough of that bed just yet. I wish there were another shot almost just like this one, but with the pillows in-focus.

Ah, there we go. Much better.

All kinds of weird staging going on in this place. From the lone typewriter with no seating…

…to the pair of tall chairs just sitting by themselves in the corner.

Also: Dining with George and Martha Washington. And nothing else.

The home does have one cool feature though…

That’s the “400SF bomb shelter converted into a wine cellar.” Nice. Survivalism in style.

“This massive wall of empty shelves looks too lonely. Better do some staging…”

“Ahh, there. Much better.”

The weird thing about this listing is that most of the home is totally empty, no furniture, no decor, nothing. But the kitchen sort of looks like the owners just barely stepped out of frame.

The above photo is the only one in this listing’s set of eight pictures that shows any part of the actual house.

The rest of the shots are just pictures of the surrounding mountains and power lines at various zoom levels.

I do like the artsy feeling of that chair photo, but I’m not sure it’s great for marketing at $365,000 home.

Who needs furniture when you’ve got a good book and light to read by?

I’d say that this place is bigger than it looks, but…

…it’s not.

Whoever staged and photographed this home was really proud of themselves.

I mean, really, really proud. Of their suitcases. And their books. And the white cat on the white sofa slipcover.

Seriously, of the fifteen photos on this listing, only about half feature the home itself. The other half are just close-up shots of the pretty staging.

I mean, those cupcakes do look delicious, but typically I browse real estate listings because I want to see the homes, not the pomegranates.

Hey wait a minute! Are those the same cupcakes that were inside on the dresser? I call shenanigans!

Rubber chickens. On plates (on plates on plates). At the dinner table.

This is what’s known in the industry as “hyper-targeted staging.”

One question though…

What’s with the creepy rag doll hanging on the wall in the corner of the bedroom?

Unsettling.

Because sometimes you just want to go into your bathroom to sit down and relax, and what better place than right between the toilet and the shower.
