Hope you like long, narrow spaces.
And stairs.
And… shoes.
Appropriate, since this little beauty has had to be “shoehorned” into a mere 30 foot wide, yet still prime location on Chicago’s Gold Coast.
See that little bit of open space and blue sky just to the left of this structure? Yeah, it’s not there anymore. Google street view shows another, almost as narrow building going in right there. Best turn sideways when navigating your own property… and suck that gut in lest if get chopped off! At least the materials and design are a treat, even if the not-at-all relaxed or spread-out floor plaln isn’t.
Wow! I have never seen a place feature such splendid, dark-stained woodwork and still deliver such a feeling of almost tropical airiness. I’m just awed. They may have lost some light in the side windows (re the new neighbor), but Emerald, that is one heck of a lovely space. I was already jaw-dropped before I reached the “commander of the universe” office space… and that tiny, stone-faced bathroom with the floating sink seems to defy Euclidean geometry with its illusion of spaciousness.
It’s necessarily multi-level nature was daunting at first – I could happily live in that basement, if reaching everything else weren’t such a climb – but then I read the listing: “Elevator.”
Oooh, Nellie. If only it weren’t in Chicago – but then again, it’s not as though I go out much, and internet signal’s bound to be pretty good. :D
@anodean: I’m so glad you enjoyed it! And can you believe… this thing was built in 2007? Not remodeled… built.
I don’t know that being in Chicago is that bad, not up in the Gold Coast area. Now the South Side, on the other hand….
Yup, the “floating” sink is tres cool, but you’d find me on the terrace any day the weather would allow. :D
Wow unbelievable that it’s 7900 sf.
